Gentlemen of Balcombe,
I'm pleased to advise that the planning for the 60th AAS Celebration and Memorial Dedication at Albury is going well with good numbers registering for the event. All the details can be found at www.austarmyapprentice.org. Check out the Memorial section as well, immortalize yourself & buy a paver or two.
What would be better is if more "boys" were coming, so this is a plea to those of you that haven`t committed to attend to do so asap, so as to ensure that your intake is well represented. I don't think anyone will be disappointed with the activities that comprise the weekend.
If I cast my mind back 50 years to when I marched in to A Coy, to meet OC Major Rocky Redhead, WO2 Peter Patrick Joseph Murphy, and not forgetting Cpl Krinkly Mills I, like the rest of you, knew that the old boyhood days were suddenly gone forever. As I lay in the "farta" in hut Rowell that first night I thought that maybe I should have gone to the Seminary as Mum wanted. By the end of the first week, with all that bloody sewing and the fights, I knew I should have. In modern verbage I suppose it could be termed "lifestyle trauma", for mine it was more than that.
60 years is a very significant milestone in our lives and I think we owe it to ourselves to turn out on parade together once more, and probably the last time. That's something I want to do very much, and I want to see the faces of old mates of a life time ago there with me..
Can I ask you to get on your networks and find those we have lost contact with over the many years, head them to the website or give me their details so I can follow up and we can be sure they all know about it.
The Dinner tables are going fairly quickly so now is the time for the registration forms to be in. Each intake will automatically be grouped together, already we have almost half the tables for the Dinner filled, thus there is no time to lose lads.
Contact me if I can assist in any way, mob 0418 728 181.
Stay well, and I want to see you all there,
Speed Maloney
13th VM
